Coyotes sign new arena naming-rights deal

NHL, Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes and Gila River Casinos have agreed on a nine-year partnership that will include the first naming-rights deal by a federally recognized tribe with a venue for one of the four major professional sports leagues.

The agreement must be approved by the Glendale City Council during its meeting on Sept. 9. The venue, which had been called Jobing.com Arena, will be known as Gila River Arena if the deal is approved.

The Gila River Indian Community and Gila River Casinos have had a long-time sponsorship relationship with the Coyotes and will add a variety of additional advertising, marketing and merchandising opportunities at the arena.

The Coyotes were purchased from the NHL by IceArizona prior to the 2013-14 season and were renamed the Arizona Coyotes this year.
