NHL, Toronto Maple Leafs

TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Petri Kontiola to a one-year contract Thursday.

The 29-year-old center has spent the past five seasons in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. He was drafted by Chicago in the seventh round of the 2004 draft.

The Finnish center had five assists in 12 games for the Blackhawks in the 2007-08 season. He spent most of that season with the team's AHL affiliate.

Kontiola helped Finland win a bronze medal at the Sochi Olympics.
