Matt Moulson has landed back in Buffalo, inking a five-year-deal worth $25 million with the Sabres, a source confirmed to ESPN.com. The deal also includes a no-trade clause.
Moulson, one of the top wingers on the market when the free agency period opened Tuesday, returns to Buffalo after the Sabres dealt him at the trade deadline to the Minnesota Wild in March.
The three-time 30-goal scorer had a number of teams express interest in bringing him into the fold, but Moulson narrowed his list and ultimately chose a Sabres team that has been one of the most aggressive clubs since the frenzy began Tuesday at noon.
The Sabres traded to acquire veteran defenseman Josh Gorges and also signed Gorges' former Montreal Canadiens teammate and captain Brian Gionta on Tuesday.
Multiple sources said that, though the Sabres are a rebuilding club, Moulson was drawn to re-sign with them because of how well he was treated during this time spent in Buffalo this past season.
Moulson, who resuscitated his career with an outstanding four-plus seasons with the New York Islanders, was traded to the Sabres for Thomas Vanek in a stunning blockbuster deal back in October.
The 30-year-old winger had 11 goals and 29 points in 44 games for the Sabres this past season before moving on to the Wild for the final six weeks of the season and the playoffs.
