Bolland, Jokinen join Panthers

NHL, Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers agreed to terms with centers Dave Bolland and Jussi Jokinen, plus goaltender Al Montoya shortly after hockey's free agent period started, the team announced Tuesday.

In addition, the Panthers signed forward Shawn Thornton to a two-year deal. The contract is worth $1.2 million per season, a league source told ESPNBoston.com's Joe McDonald.

Bolland signed a $27.5 million, five-year deal. Jokinen signed for four years and $16 million. Terms of Montoya's deal were not immediately known.

Jokinen had 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 points with Pittsburgh last season. Bolland, who once was with the Chicago Blackhawks when Florida general manager Dale Tallon was in the same role with that franchise, played in just 23 games for Toronto this past season because of a severed tendon in his left ankle.

Bolland tweeted thanks to the Leafs and their fans on Tuesday.

Thornton, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, spent seven seasons in Boston and helped the Bruins reach the finals twice. He had five goals and three assist last season.

Montoya was 13-8-3 with a 2.30 goals-against average for Winnipeg last season, stopping 92 percent of the shots he faced.

Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston.com and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
