BOSTON -- Bruins forward Milan Lucic says he's not sorry for what he said to the Canadiens' Dale Weise during the traditional handshake line after Montreal won Game 7 on Wednesday at TD Garden.
After the Canadiens ousted the Bruins in a second-round playoff series, Weise complained about "disrespectful" comments made to him by Lucic in line.
Reading his lips on the television replay of the handshakes, Lucic appeared to mouth "I'm going to f----- kill you next year."
On Friday, Lucic did not back down from his comments and said it's unfortunate the situation has escalated.
"It's unfortunate, especially because a lot of what's said on the ice stays on the ice," Lucic said. "Unfortunately, that code is broken and it's unfortunate it blows up to what it is now. I'm not the first guy to do it, I'm not the last guy to do it. I'm not sorry that I did it. I'm a guy that plays on emotion, and this is a game of emotions. Sometimes you make decisions out of emotions that might not be the best ones.
"I didn't make the NHL because I accepted losing or accepted failure. That got me to this point and made me the player that I am. Other than that, there's not much more to it."
Lucic was asked if he would say the same thing the next time around.
"Well, probably not," he said. "Again, I live by 'what is said on the ice stays on the ice.' I can't take back what I said, so I'm not apologizing for what was said in the handshake. It's unfortunate that what was said on the ice gets leaked out, gets blown out of proportion.
"I deal with my problems myself and that's the way I go about my business. I don't think much of the guys that feel the need to go and do something like that."
