Rangers agree with Mat Bodie

The New York Rangers have landed one of the most sought-after college free agents in defenseman Mat Bodie.

Bodie's agent, Brian Bartlett, told ESPN New York on Tuesday morning that his client has reached a deal with the Rangers. A team official confirmed the move.

Bodie, 24, helped lead Union to its first NCAA championship in the Frozen Four this weekend, getting a goal and an assist in a 7-4 win over Minnesota on Saturday.

The East St. Paul, Manitoba, native finished his senior season with eight goals and 39 points, leading all Union defensemen.

Bodie (6-foot, 165 pounds) will not join the Rangers this season; instead, he will remain at school to finish his degree.

He plans to join the team at its development camp this summer.
