Jarome Iginla sits vs. Red Wings

NHL, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT -- Boston Bruins forward Jarome Iginla was scratched for Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings with a lower-body injury.

Iginla participated in the team's morning practice, and with the Bruins having opened a commanding lead in the East -- their 110 points already have clinched the Atlantic -- the team can afford to be cautious with its veterans down the stretch.

Following Wednesday's morning skate, Iginla said he expected to sit at some point before the end of the season.

"Well, I'd like to always play them all. I like to play them all but I don't know if that will be the case," Iginla said. "There is good depth here, so I don't think I'll be able to play them all down the stretch."

Iginla, 36, had played in all 75 of Boston's games before sitting out Wednesday night, with 30 goals and 31 assists in his first season with the Bruins.

The Red Wings kept forward Daniel Alfredsson out of the lineup because of a lower-body injury. He has 17 goals and 45 points in 63 games during his first season with Detroit.

Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk skated with teammates Wednesday morning but missed his 16th straight game because of an injured left knee. Datsyuk wouldn't say whether he expected to play Friday at home against Buffalo.
