Jonathan Ericsson out 2 weeks

NHL, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs

DETROIT -- The banged-up Detroit Red Wings have taken another hit.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson was hit by a shot and suffered a broken finger Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He will miss at least two weeks and may require surgery.

"There's a chance he could have surgery [Wednesday], which would speed up the [healing] process," general manager Ken Holland told mlive.com after Tuesday's game.

Ericsson, who played for 13-plus minutes over the first two periods against Toronto, has a goal and 10 assists with a plus-2 rating in 48 games this season.

"It's tough; he's one of our top D-men," goaltender Jimmy Howard told mlive.com. "You kind of shake your head; hopefully we don't lose another guy because now it's just getting to be mind-boggling."

The Red Wings, who have won just three of their past eight games, are missing several forwards -- including Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg -- but had been relatively healthy on the blue line.

"We get somebody hurt every day, and they never come back," coach Mike Babcock said.
