NEW YORK -- Derick Brassard scored the go-ahead goal with 7:46 left in the third period and the New York Rangers beat the New York Islanders for the second straight game, 4-1 on Friday night.
Brad Richards provided insurance with 5:01 remaining and Ryan McDonagh added an empty-net goal with 1 second left. Marc Staal had two assists and Henrik Lundqvist made 38 saves for the Rangers, who have won three straight and six of eight.
Brian Boyle gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first period before Kyle Okposo tied it in the second.
The Rangers topped the Islanders 2-1 outdoors at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night and won the season series 3-2. The teams met for the third time in 11 days.
Evgeni Nabokov made 33 saves for the Islanders, who dropped their fifth straight (0-4-1) after winning seven of nine.
RED WINGS 4, CAPITALS 3, SO
DETROIT -- Alex Ovechkin tied the game with 7 seconds left in the third period, but Patrick Eaves scored in the seventh round of a shootout to lift Detroit over Washington.
Gustav Nyquist put the Red Wings ahead midway through the third period, but they couldn't prevent the NHL's goal-scoring leader from sending the game to overtime. Ovechkin has 39 goals this season, his highest total since scoring 50 times during the 2009-10 season.
The banged-up Red Wings welcomed back two key players: goalie Jimmy Howard and Henrik Zetterberg. Howard made 26 saves after missing four games with an injured left knee. Zetterberg had missed two games with a back injury.
Drew Miller and Danny DeKeyser also scored for Detroit.
Jason Chimera and Casey Wellman had goals for the Capitals. Michal Neuvirth stopped 42 shots to match a career high.
HURRICANES 3, BLUES 1
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jeff Skinner scored the go-ahead goal in the second period of Carolina's victory over St. Louis.
Alexander Semin added an empty-netter with 1:04 left and Nathan Gerbe scored on an early power play. They helped the Hurricanes win their fifth in six games to remain in the mix in the crowded Metropolitan Division.
David Backes scored on the power play for St. Louis.
The Blues missed a chance to pull even with Chicago atop the Central Division by losing just their fourth game against an Eastern Conference team.
Anton Khudobin stopped 26 shots for the Hurricanes.
Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves in his fourth straight start, but had his four-game winning streak snapped.
PREDATORS 3, DEVILS 2, OT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Shea Weber scored his second goal of the game at 1:29 of overtime and Nashville rallied late in beating New Jersey.
David Legwand scored with 10.8 seconds remaining in regulation with goalie Carter Hutton on the bench to force the extra period. Hutton stopped Michael Ryder on a breakaway 80 seconds into overtime to keep the game tied.
Colin Wilson then took off the other way and drove toward the net before dropping the puck off to Weber, who beat Cory Schneider with a wrister from the left circle.
Patrik Elias had a goal and an assist, and Jaromir Jagr also scored for the Devils. Travis Zajac had two assists.
JETS 4, CANUCKS 3
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Devin Setoguchi scored two goals, including the tiebreaker with 2:56 remaining, and Winnipeg edged slumping Vancouver.
Zach Bogosian and Michael Frolik also scored for the Jets. Andrew Ladd had two assists.
Alexander Edler, Ryan Kesler and Jason Garrison scored for the Canucks. Daniel Sedin picked up an assist, but his goal-scoring drought stretched to 15 games.
It was the last of six games Vancouver had to play without coach John Tortorella, who has been serving a 15-day suspension.
