NHL draft: First-round ETAs
ESPN Insider
June 26, 2012

Immediately following the NHL draft, fans are usually clamoring to see these shiny, new prospects in action. But the reality is that most of them aren't yet ready for the NHL and need a season or two...

Like my editor has already done, I am sorry for the left out players. Honestly we posted so much material I thought it was a general story about some of the players. This was clearly an omission on getting all 30 players in the ETA artical. I appreciate all the emotion, means you care about your teams. If anyone is at fault it is this novice writer. Have fun figuring out all the picks and fun with the projections. One point of note. Ceci (OTT 15th overall) is very close if not ready, but believe the team will keep him in Jr for another year.

All, sincere apologies on the oversight on Jankowski, Wilson and Matheson. We had a three-man team working a lot of angles and writing a lot of articles this past weekend and it slipped through the cracks. It shouldn't have. Our foremost concern is the accuracy of our content and the enjoyment of our readers. Pure and simple, we dropped the ball. We have updated the article to include the absent players and regret the error.

I would be asking, "Where's Wilson" but then I remembered he was drafted by the Caps. If he were drafted by the Penguins, and original six team, or a canadian team, he would have been in the article. Typical ESPN hockey analysis.

I like how this article did not include all the first round picks.

Trouba to me is ready physically to play but has chose the college root. But he could drop into a #5/6 role tomorrow. It might not be a good thing like Luke Schenn, but he isn't two years from playing because of anything physical. His first pass needs work but both of the Jets first two rounders in my opinion are physically up to the task of suiting up next fall in the NHL.

weak. dude can't even count the number of players drafted. at least say that some players can't be graded due to such and such as opposed to pretending you have a comprehensive list. glad i paid extra for insider access to read this crap.

I hope you're right about Faksa; the Stars could really use him as a 2-way player. It sucks about Ribeiro; that's quite a bit of production lost, but if it helps the Stars bottom-line I'm all for it. A good draft overall for the Stars will hopefully translate into finally being able to get to the playoffs. It's been too long.

i totally agree with you. it hurts to lose ribeiro but getting a bit younger i think is necessary to get better. I'm excited about faksa and the overall draft we had. I think we are going to improve now that we have stability in ownership

Matheson is headed to Boston College this fall. Many highly drafted players (Chris Kreider being the most recent example) that have suited up for Jerry York's Eagles have stayed for 3-4 years. Matheson is Canadian, something that is uncommon for players at BC, but he realistically could stay 2-3 years and develop under the greatest college hockey coach of all time into the star Florida believes he will become.

Grant, If there is a lockout next year and these players start the year in the CHL can they be returned to the NHL once the lockout has ended? I know in 95 Rob Neidemeyer and Alexandre Daige started the year in the CHL and returned but I am wondering if there has been a change in the CHL-NHL transfer agreement since then.

Yes, those players will be available to their NHL team just like in 1994-95 and, if the season had ever started, in 2004-05.
