GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers will not have leading receiver Randall Cobb for multiple weeks but could have receiver James Jones back in time for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy would not reveal any details of the injuries but a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Jones has a sprained posterior cruciate knee ligament. ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen confirmed a report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that said Cobb has a fractured fibula and could miss 6-8 weeks.
Both players were injured in Sunday's 19-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
"James, my understanding is he may have a chance," McCarthy said Monday. "Randall does not have a chance this week. Randall will be multiple weeks."
Cobb, who leads the Packers with 29 receptions, sustained his injury when he was hit in the right leg by Ravens safety Matt Elam in the second quarter. Cobb did not return to the game and used crutches on the sideline.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers confronted Elam after the play. After the game, Rodgers said he thought Elam could have avoided taking a shot at Cobb's knee.
But Ravens coach John Harbaugh defended the hit Monday, saying he did not understand Rodgers' criticism.
"I think Matt made a tackle," Harbaugh said Monday. "He was scrambling to try to catch up with that route as best as he could. To say that it could have been artistically palatable is pretty hard for me to understand."
Jones suffered his left knee injury in the first quarter while blocking on a run by Packers rookie Eddie Lacy. He left the game and did not return.
The absence of Cobb and Jones left Green Bay with only two healthy receivers -- Jordy Nelson and seldom-used Jarrett Boykin -- for the second half against the Ravens. Boykin was targeted six times and dropped two passes. He had one catch for 43 yards. Nelson, who leads the Packers in receiving yards (484) had four catches for 113 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
The Packers likely will need to add a receiver this week. On Monday, they re-signed rookie receiver Reggie Dunn to their practice squad.
The Packers also will be without outside linebacker Nick Perry, McCarthy confirmed. Perry sustained a foot injury on his second-quarter sack of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. Perry returned to the game for several plays in the second half and said after the game that he thought he would be OK. Perry's injury came a week after the Packers lost outside linebacker Clay Matthews to a broken thumb.
"Nick Perry was a bit of a surprise to me," McCarthy said. "I didn't expect that. Obviously James and Randall, [we] saw the injuries in the game. You just hope for good news there."
