Grade A pick-by pick

Whom should your team take in Rounds 1-3? Mel Kiper picks for every team. ESPN.com Illustration

In the Grade A draft, I make a pick for each team at each spot, based on my projected needs and my prospect grades. Again, it is not a mock draft, but instead a look at how I would pick for each team at each spot.

You've seen the team summaries, but here's a pick-by-pick experience so you can see how the board sets up.

One final note: You'll see some of the teams are italicized; this means they obtained that pick via an imaginary draft-day trade. And if you look below, you can see that's exactly how my Grade A draft begins.

Team-by-team results | Three rounds of picks

1. Detroit Lions (via Kansas City)

Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama

The next three teams in the draft like Milliner, so Detroit moves up to get him.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M

The top player on my draft board for a team that has too often whiffed on value.

3. Oakland Raiders

Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida

The Raiders need to upgrade talent in every area on defense, and Floyd is versatile.

4. Philadelphia Eagles

Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon

I go for Jordan to give the Eagles a needed pass-rusher opposite Connor Barwin.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (via Detroit)

Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan

Move down, add a pick or two for the future, and still get a needed tackle. Win-win.
