The Bengals and Robert Geathers have agreed on a three-year, $9.45 million deal that will keep the veteran defensive end in Cincinnati, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The Bengals made another move Tuesday to keep their defensive line intact, officially signing defensive end Wallace Gilberry to a contract extension. A league source told Schefter that Gilberry's extension is for three years and worth $6.75 million.
Geathers, 29, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Bengals. He made 16 starts and recorded three sacks this past season.
A fourth-round selection in 2004, Geathers has appeared in 134 games and has 104 career starts. He has been a key contributor to a Cincinnati defense that ranked sixth in the NFL last season.
Gilberry was signed as a free agent last September and finished third on the team with 6½ sacks. He also recovered three fumbles and returned one for a touchdown, becoming an integral part of Cincinnati's rotation on the line.
Gilberry played with the Chiefs from 2008-11. He could have become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday when his previous deal expired.
Earlier this month, the Bengals used their franchise tag on end Michael Johnson, who had 11½ sacks last season. Johnson will be paid more than $11 million this season if he doesn't reach a long-term deal.
