Report: Kenny Britt, cops to meet

NFL, Tennessee Titans

Kenny Britt's father told The (Nashville) Tennessean Tuesday that his son will meet with Jersey City, N.J., police Wednesday regarding an incident last weekend in which he allegedly drove a friend to the hospital after the man had been stabbed at a party.

Jack Britt called police portrayals that his son, a wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans, has been uncooperative "nonsense." He also said that his son has hired a lawyer.

"Kenny is not running from anyone. He has nothing to hide," Jack Britt told the newspaper. "He is fully cooperating and the police are saying a lot of things that just aren't true. They don't have all the facts. Kenny is going to clear this thing up."

Jersey City Police Capt. Edgar Martinez confirmed to the Tennessean on Tuesday that a meeting has been scheduled between the receiver and police, but told the newspaper that "until he comes in, nothing has changed."

"Kenny Britt is a grown man. He needs to get here," he told the newspaper.

On Monday, Martinez said police need to interview everyone who was present at a Jersey City house party Sunday in which someone fired a gun through a first-floor window; Britt's friend had been stabbed at a location nearby. No one was struck in the shooting, Martinez said.

"We need to interview all the parties involved, and (Britt) has refused to come in, so the statements that he's putting out that he's cooperated with the investigation are false. We're trying to ascertain his location," Martinez said Monday, adding that authorities are discussing their next steps with the Hudson County prosecutor's office.

"There was a stabbing and a shooting in the same incident -- and we need to speak to everyone who was there," Martinez said. "(Britt) drove the guy to the hospital. (Britt) was at a dinner, the party, with his pregnant girlfriend."

NFL officials will be looking into this latest incident involving Britt and police. He was suspended for the 2012 opener against the Patriots as a result of a driving under the influence arrest in July 2012, which at the time was his eighth run-in with police since he was drafted out of Rutgers in 2009.

Jack Britt told The Tennessean that he expects his son to be cleared in the investigation.

"Kenny, being his friend, took him to the hospital. Kenny unfortunately got involved by taking his friend to the hospital," he told the newspaper. "But Kenny was not involved. He didn't have a fight with anybody. Nobody was fighting over Kenny or anyone else."
