Mike Shanahan limits assistants

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan doesn't want his assistants, including his son, interviewing for head coaching jobs while the team is in the playoffs.

Seven NFL head coaches were fired Monday, and Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan might be a candidate for one or more of those openings. He designed an imaginative offense featuring rookie Robert Griffin III that helped Washington win the NFC East.

NFL rules say assistants could be interviewed next week even if the Redskins are still playing.

But Mike Shanahan said: "It's not time to interview during the season. It's time to concentrate on your job. After the season's over with, I think there's plenty of time for all those things. ... You've got a job to do and you should do that first."
