Matt Forte practices on limited basis

NFL, Chicago Bears

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte had limited participation in practice on Wednesday, an encouraging development after the Pro Bowl tailback had to leave last week's game against the Minnesota Vikings with an ankle injury.

"He looked fine. He's going to be okay," Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice said. "I'm sure. I hope."

Forte's ankle injury occurred on a third-quarter rushing attempt where he appeared to get his ankle caught under a pile of Vikings defenders. The officials initially ruled Forte had fumbled on the play and scored it a Vikings touchdown when Minnesota safety Mistral Raymond scooped up the football and ran into the end zone. However, a replay later confirmed that Forte's knee was down before the ball came out.

Michael Bush replaced Forte for the remainder of the Vikings' game. No. 3 running back Armando Allen also got on the field for a couple of snaps.

Bush started for Forte earlier in the year when the team's leading rusher sat out Week 3 because of an ankle sprain.

Meantime, cornerback Charles Tillman (ankle), guard Chris Spencer (knee), wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (knee), linebacker Lance Briggs (ankle), tight end Kellen Davis (ankle) and wide receiver Devin Hester (concussion) all sat out practice.

Hester was not present on the practice field during the workout.

Defensive tackle Stephen Paea (shoulder) and guard Edwin Williams (shoulder) both had full participation.
