LB Brooks Reed (groin) ruled out

DETROIT -- Houston Texans linebacker Brooks Reed has left the team's game against the Detroit Lions with a groin injury and will not return.

Reed appeared to be favoring his left leg as he gingerly walked toward the sideline in the first quarter Thursday. He later was carted toward the locker room.

The Texans were already short at linebacker since starter Tim Dobbins was inactive because of a shoulder problem. Star linebacker Brian Cushing is out for the season with a knee injury.

Reed has 2.5 sacks after contributing six last season as a rookie.

Texans offensive tackle Derek Newton left in the first half Thursday with a knee injury.
