Greg Childs injures both knees

NFL, Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings rookie receiver Greg Childs suffered patella tendon tears in both knees and is expected to undergo surgery soon, the team announced Sunday.

Childs, drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, was injured Saturday night after he jumped to catch a ball thrown slightly behind him. The ball bounced away and Childs landed awkwardly.

The 6-foot-3 Childs initially clutched his right leg, but a team of medical officials also examined his left leg. Eventually, four men lifted him, his legs fully extended, onto a cart.

Childs also tore the patella tendon in his right knee in October 2010. The Vikings had been excited about his size and potential.
