CORTLAND, N.Y. -- A day after sitting out of team drills in the New York Jets' first padded practice of the 2012 training camp, Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis was back in his regular spot with the defense Monday.

"That was just a precautionary thing, he wanted to go," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "He's a competitor, it's not like he's trying to get out of anything."

Revis had been kept out of team drills after experiencing tightness in his right hamstring on Saturday. The team's trainers were being cautious, and on Monday morning Revis fully participated in practice although some of his reps at cornerback appeared to be more of a zone than the usual 1-on-1 with receivers.

Ryan decided to change up the practice schedule because of minor soft-tissue injuries like the one Revis experienced. The team will take the field a half-hour later, at 8:30 a.m. and add a 20-minute stretching period to avoid more hamstring problems. Receiver Santonio Holmes was stretched on the sideline Monday with some tightness, and receiver Chaz Schilens was bothered by a groin injury.

"What can we do to prevent these soft-tissue injuries right now," Ryan said, "and we think this will give us the best chance to be successful."

Ryan also decided to cut a two-minute drill at the end of Monday's practice.

Revis will get a day of rest on Tuesday, which is the team's first off-day since they began practicing on July 27.

In 2010, Revis was hampered by a nagging hamstring injury, his left that season, after holding out of training camp. This year he debated whether or not to hold out after feeling like the team didn't follow through with a plan to renegotiate his contract. He emphatically denied on Sunday that his hamstring injury was a veiled protest of his contract.
