Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday but the team said he is expected back for the season opener Sept. 9 against the New England Patriots. Britt, who tore his ACL and MCL last September in a game against the Broncos, had the procedure to make him more comfortable and accelerate his return to the field. "It's almost become commonplace," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said Wednesday after a speaking engagement. "It's not one of those things that was, 'Wow, we're having surgery.' It's very common, and if it helps his rehab process, it's well worth doing. Our goal is to have him play this year. You don't want to get into the middle of camp and (need to have surgery)." Webster said that during a recent workout, Britt was able to run straight ahead, and he did change-of-direction running drills the next day. He said Wednesday's surgery should help with the swelling in Britt's knee. Webster said he didn't know if Britt would be ready to go by the start of training camp. But he pointed out that Britt wasn't available most of last preseason after straining his hamstring in mid-July, but played once the season began. "We'll just have to wait and see," Webster said, according to the team's website. "I do think he'll be ready for the season, and if you remember, we went through this last year where he didn't play preseason games or played the last preseason game and was ready to go. We know when we're really going to need him -- that's when we line up against New England." Britt was off to the best start of his career with 289 yards receiving before suffering his injury in the Titans' third game of 2011. Injuries have been Britt's biggest challenge. He strained his right hamstring in 2010 a week after having 225 yards receiving, the best single-game performance by a receiver that season.
