Jim Sorgi to work out for Raiders

NFL, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, New York Giants

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders are bringing in quarterback Jim Sorgi for a tryout.

Sorgi's agent, Matt Brei, said Sorgi will work out for Oakland on Tuesday.

The Raiders are looking for a veteran backup quarterback to play behind starter Carson Palmer. They are also bringing in Matt Leinart this week.

Sources have told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Leinart is likely to sign with the Raiders.

Leinart has a familiarity with Oakland's offensive system because new coordinator Greg Knapp was his quarterbacks coach in Houston. Leinart also has a relationship with Palmer, whom he backed up to start his college career at Southern California.

Sorgi spent six years in Indianapolis as Peyton Manning's backup. He spent the 2010 season with the New York Giants on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury and did not play last season.

The only other quarterbacks on the roster currently are Terrelle Pryor and Rhett Bomar.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
