LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears 2012 first-round draft choice Shea McClellin said on Friday there is no truth to the rumors that he suffered three separate concussions during his four-year collegiate career at Boise State.
The defensive end, however, did admit to suffering one documented concussion his junior year with the Broncos.
"It did bother me a little bit," McClellin said of the rumors. "I don't know where the reports came from. I had one concussion in 2010 and I didn't miss a game. I missed one practice [because] they kept me out. In 2009, it wasn't really a concussion, I had concussion-like symptoms. But I was sick before that, so it was more precautionary and it wasn't really a concussion. Basically, it was just one, so I don't know where three came from."
"I changed my helmet up this last year and I haven't had a problem since, so I'm good to go. It's not worrisome to me."
McClellin started 38 of 49 career games at Boise State.
The Bears selected McClellin at No. 19 overall with the plans to use the versatile defender as a pass rusher in the club's 4-3 defense. He recorded 20.5 career sacks and 33.0 tackles for a loss for the Broncos.
