Chicago White Sox pitcher Philip Humber finally received a tweet from New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow on Saturday.
All Humber had to do was throw a perfect game.
"Congrats @Philip_Humber on accomplishing one of the greatest feats in all of sports! #PerfectGame," Tebow tweeted.
Humber fired the 21st perfect game in Major League Baseball history on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.
One tweet stood out among the many congratulating Humber.
"Tim Tebow tweeted me," Humber said Monday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "The funny thing about that is I tweeted him this offseason, and of course he's Tim Tebow and I'm Philip Humber ... compared to him I'm a nobody, but I didn't get a response. I was like, 'Aw man,' I was kind of hoping he'd tweet me back or something.'"
Tebow was soliciting a $1 donation toward the Tebow Foundation children's hospital in the Philippines. Humber retweeted it on Nov. 29 and replied: "I'm heading to Philippines next week with a group of baseball guys... Making a stop in Mindanao! God bless."
Humber also tweeted about Tebow after the former Denver quarterback led the Broncos to an 18-15 overtime win over the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 23.
"Thoroughly enjoyed watching @TimTebow today. Unfazed by outside opinion. Good to see that attitude rewarded. #Perseverance #GlorifyingGod," Humber tweeted.
Of course, Humber realizes that with Tebow having over 1.5 million followers on Twitter, the quarterback likely did not even see his two tweets about him.
Humber also received a congratulatory tweet from Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, who stars with Kate Upton in a commercial for the MLB 2K12 video game $1 million 'Perfect Game Challenge.' In the commercial, Verlander -- who has two no-hitters and a Cy Young Award -- is denied access into the Perfect Club.
"Congrats to @Philip_Humber! 21st perfect game in history. Guess @KateUpton will let him in the perfect club now. I'm still out! Lol," Verlander tweeted.
Humber also reportedly received a text from Miami Marlins pitcher Mark Buehrle, who fired a perfect game for the White Sox on July 23, 2009. The text, according to the Boston Herald, said: "Welcome to the club."
Part of Humber's celebration will be doing "The Top 10 List" on "Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday.
