Charlie Batch re-signs with Steelers

NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers turned to their old standby at backup quarterback, re-signing Charlie Batch to a one-year deal.

Batch, 37, is 5-2 as a spot starter since joining the Steelers in 2003. In his only start last season, Batch threw for 208 yards in a 27-0 win over the St. Louis Rams.

This marks Batch's 11th season in Pittsburgh. Only one other quarterback -- New England's Tom Brady -- has a longer current tenure with the same team.

It's unknown what Batch's return means to the future of Byron Leftwich, who was considered the top backup last season before breaking his arm in the preseason. Leftwich has drawn interest from the Indianapolis Colts, but he remains unsigned.
