The New York Giants hosted Tennessee quarterback Matt Simms, son of their former quarterback Phil Simms, and Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu in a private workout on Wednesday.
The players' visit was originally reported by the Star-Ledger and confirmed by ESPN.
Sanu later tweeted, "Great workout today." Sanu also retweeted a fan who hoped the receiver was a Giant after the 2012 NFL draft, which starts on April 26. On his pro day, Sanu ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41, and his stock has steadily risen.
Simms is not projected to be taken as early in the draft as Sanu, if at all. The Giants already have three quarterbacks on the roster, with Eli Manning, the recently re-signed David Carr and Ryan Perrilloux.
Since both players are local -- Simms is a Don Bosco product -- the workouts don't count against the NFL limit of 30 pre-draft workouts. Simms started sparingly at Tennessee. He was given the starting job in 2010 but later lost it.
The Giants picked Phil Simms with the seventh pick overall in the 1979 NFL draft. Simms was a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback for New York, and won a Super Bowl with the team.
