Report: Kirby Wilson visits Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson made his first visit to the team's facility on Wednesday since he was severely burned in a fire only days before Pittsburgh's wild-card game against the Denver Broncos, according to a report in the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette.

According to the Post-Gazette, the Steelers greeted Wilson with cake in a team meeting room.

The 50-year-old Wilson was using a cane to walk around, the newspaper said.

He is planning to officially return to work by the end of April, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Wednesday.

Wilson, in his fifth season with the Steelers, sustained burns on 45 percent of his body and also suffered from smoke inhalation after his house caught fire while he was sleeping on Jan. 6.

He served as running backs coach in New England, Washington, Arizona and Tampa Bay before joining the Steelers when Mike Tomlin took over as coach in 2007.

Information from ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
