NFL fines WR Braylon Edwards $50K

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards was fined $50,000 for violating the NFL policy on substances of abuse, the team said Tuesday.

The fine is for Edwards' arrest for driving under the influence in September 2010 while he was with the New York Jets. Edwards pleaded guilty in July, but won't face a league suspension, according to the team.

Edwards later tweeted about it.

"I guess the good news is out 49er faithfuls, no suspension. I did get fined but I am in agreement and happy to move on," Edwards said via his Twitter account.

In January 2010, Edwards pleaded no contest in Cleveland to aggravated disorderly conduct after being accused of punching a friend of NBA star LeBron James.

While on his 18-month probation from the Cleveland case, Edwards was charged with driving while intoxicated in his Land Rover in Manhattan in September 2010. Police said his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Edwards joined the 49ers on a one-year contract this offseason and is expected to give Alex Smith a downfield threat in the passing game.
