Cut doesn't keep Briggs from workout

NFL, Chicago Bears

It's going to take more than a razor cut to slow down Lance Briggs.

The Chicago Bears linebacker, who said he cut the palm of his right hand while shaving, participated at the team's voluntary workouts on Tuesday and downplayed the injury, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"I'm definitely not going to miss the season," Briggs said, according to the report. "I'm not the first person to cut themselves with a grooming mechanism."

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Briggs had appeared at an autograph signing during the weekend wearing a bandage on his right hand -- he's left-handed -- and told autograph seekers that he had cut his hand while trying to shave with a straight razor.

Bears trainer Tim Bream examined Briggs on Tuesday, and Briggs worked out with a bandage covering the cut, according to the report.

The Sun-Times reported Tuesday that if Briggs had failed to report the injury to his team, it could constitute a violation of his contract. But Briggs told the Tribune that the injury wasn't nearly that serious.

"You don't have to report if you cut yourself with a razor," he said, according to the Tribune. "If I was cutting a cake with a knife and cut my finger, and I felt like I was in danger, then I would have called a doctor. If it had been something dire, then I would have notified the Bears organization.

"After I cut my hand, I wrapped it up myself and went to my appearance. I treated it the best I could."
