Report: Briggs says he cut himself

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs may have given himself an old-fashioned shaving injury while trying to get an old-fashioned shave.

Briggs told autograph seekers at an appearance Saturday in Algonquin, Ill., that he cut his right hand while attempting to shave with a straight-edged razor. He made the appearance wearing a heavy wrap on his right hand, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Briggs has been taking part in the team's voluntary offseason workout program but did not attend Monday. A high-ranking club official said Briggs was expected to appear Tuesday, allow the team to examine the injury and explain what happened, according to the report.

If Briggs failed to inform the team of the injury, it would constitute a violation of his contract, according to the report.

Briggs has gotten into trouble off the field before. Two years ago he wrecked a Lamborghini worth $350,000 on a Chicago-area expressway and abandoned it along the highway. He later pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a misdemeanor, and failure to report an accident, which is punishable by a fine.
