Rock, paper, safety

Al Afalava felt like he made an impression on the coaching staff when he made his pre-draft visit to Halas Hall.

"I had a feeling I was going to come back to Chicago after my visit," said Afalava. "I really enjoyed it. I got along with the coaches and stuff. It's going to be a pleasure being a Bear."

Can he play free safety: "I played both in our system [at Oregon State], but wherever the coaches want me to play, I'll do it. I'll play long snapper if they want me to play long snapper."

His experience on special teams: "I enjoy kickoff. My freshmen year people used to love watching me on kickoff because I just used to go down and hit people."

On being listed in the OSU media guide as 2007 team rock, paper, scissors champion: "I just got lucky that one time. The next year I lost the first round."
