The scout speaks

Chicago Bears

Bears College Scouting Director Greg Gabriel just met the media at Halas Hall:

On Juaquin Iglesias: "He's played in a more pro style offense than a lot of the spread receivers. He's got great hands, his run after [the catch] ability is outstanding. A very sure-handed guy, he has one of the better pair of hands in this class of wide receivers."

On Henry Melton: "He came in as a running back and scored ten touchdowns his first year at Texas. Then they moved him over to defense. A natural pass rusher, he's very athletic. We see him as a good developmental guy and as really good player down the road."

On Melton's 2007 DWI - "Chris Ballard (the Bears' southwest scout) delved into his past and we feel very comfortable with where he is going."

Can Melton step in and contribute: "He can make an impact. He has natural pass rush skills and can fit into the rotation. We've got three defensive linemen coming out of contract at the end of this season. As you know, defensive line is the cornerstone of this franchise."

What he liked about D.J. Moore: "Versatility. He can play corner, he's a returner, he's even played some offense at Vandy. He's a rare athlete with great quickness and great ball skills."
