Iglesias: 'I was just hoping I could go there'

The Bears pick at No. 99, Oklahoma wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias, just had a conference call with the media at Halas Hall:

Initial thoughts on joining the Bears: "I'm excited to be a Bear and this is where I wanted to go. I'm excited to go to work and doing whatever I can to get on the field and help the team."

Why was Chicago his preference: "The receivers coach (Darryl Drake) came to Killeen, Texas, and worked me out and it just seemed like a good fit. He was good to me, he treated me well and we got a long together well. [Drake] made me feel comfortable and that was basically the main reason I wanted to go there."

Did he still think he'd be a Bear when they traded No. 49 on Saturday: "Yeah, I did. I didn't really know where I was going to go and when that happened I obviously thought they (Bears) knew what they were doing. I wasn't upset or anything, I was just hoping I could go there later. The draft is a tricky thing and you never know where you are going to go. I was just waiting for my name to get called."

How quickly will he contribute: "They haven't really said anything about it. They just said they're really excited to have me and I'm just ready to get in and try to contribute to the team the best I can."

Was he overlooked at OU: "Yes, I think so. But I think every great team has role players and I think I was a role player. I was a big role player, but sometimes players get overshadowed by other players. That's just how it was at Oklahoma. But it ended up well for me, because now I'm a Chicago Bear."

On playing with Jay Cutler: " I just know he's a great quarterback. He's very talented, he has a big arm. I've seen him play before and I know he's my teammate. I just have to get there and get to work and hopefully it works out. I think it will."
