Spilling the beans

Thanks to a reader who passed on this note via blogdownchicagobears.com. Ole Miss wide receiver Mike Wallace recently made some interesting comments about the pre-draft feedback he's received from the Bears.

Wallace told OMSpirit.com: "The Bears are really high on me. They're talking about taking me with their first pick in the 40s [No. 49]."

Wallace also named Cleveland, Dallas, Seattle, Tennessee and Tampa Bay as potential suitors for his services.

There is no question that Wallace possesses an intriguing combination of size (6 feet) and speed (4.33). Although he never eclipsed the 40-catch mark during any season at Ole Miss, the wideout displayed a penchant for big plays, averaging over 20 yards per reception.

Another interesting note is that Wallace has the same agent as Jay Cutler and Earl Bennett, Bus Cook. With the way Cutler is said to be lobbying for Bennett, is he doing the same for Wallace?

Of course, that's just speculation, but it would not be a surprise if Wallace's name was somewhere on the Bears' "hot list". The question is, would the Ole Miss product be a reach in the second round? If Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi are off the board, do they go for defense? Would Wallace still be around at No. 99 or later? These are the questions Jerry Angelo will have to ask himself this weekend.
