Judge delays trial until Sept. 21

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The trial of a man charged with shooting and paralyzing former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier has been delayed until Sept. 21.

Circuit Judge Mallory Cooper on Tuesday reluctantly endorsed a joint request from the defense and prosecutors to reschedule Tyrone Hartsfield's trial on an attempted murder charge. The trial has been repeatedly delayed since an original start date of March 30.

The prosecutor said the case was delayed because of a full court calendar.

The judge noted that the new date will fall during football season and some of the witnesses are professional football players.

Collier was shot 14 times as he sat in his car outside a Jacksonville apartment complex. He was paralyzed from the waist down and his left leg had to be amputated.
