Vikings defensive end Brian Robison is back.
After taking two years off, Robison returned to the shot-put arena Friday in a bid to round into Olympic form, finishing first at a meet at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minn.
"I want to make the 2012 Olympics [in London]," said Robison, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Robison's throw of 60 feet, 11½ inches took first place by more than 5 feet at the Tomcat Twilight.
"I'm too talented to give it up," he said. "I just can't let it go to waste anymore."
Robison would have captured the St. Thomas-meet title with any of his top-three throws, the Star-Tribune reported. The second-year NFL veteran out of the University of Texas fouled on his other three.
Robison's longest throw was 7½ feet short of his career-best, set during a fourth-place finish at the 2006 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
"The Olympics have always been a goal for me," he said. "Football came first, and that's the way it will always go. But I want to give this a shot."
