From 32 to 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

TEAM NEEDS

Defensive Line:
This really has been a strength for the last decade, but last year this spot was noticeably unproductive. Youngster Gaines Adams led the unit with 5.5 sacks; not quite the production they were expecting from their top pick from 2007. Kevin Carter should have been out of football four years ago and Chris Hovan is no longer a difference maker in the middle. The team should look at adding a playmaker along the defensive line early in the draft. Peria Jerry of Ole Miss could be a terrific fit with their first round pick.

Wide Receiver:
If it weren't for Antonio Bryant's resurgence last season, this might arguably be the weakest receiving unit in the NFL. Gone is Joey Galloway and Michael Clayton caught just 38 passes and one touchdown in 2008. This team needs a burner that can stretch the field. Florida's Louis Murphy has a special combination of size and speed and should be taken before the third round.

Quarterback:
As it stands right now, Luke McCown will battle Byron Leftwitch for the starting gig this upcoming training camp. Yikes. Both players might be able to hold the fort down for a couple months, but neither appears to be the long term answer. If they're unable to land one of the first round QBs, they might want to take a flyer on Central Washington's Mike Reilly. He's a late round project, but his ability to read defenses and scrambling ability make him worth the investment.

PODCAST

I recently joined Dave Dameshek on his podcast to discuss the draft. Check it out. Mel Kiper even called in and yapped a bit.
