Decision Makers
The 49ers have one of the strangest front office structures in the NFL, at least from the outside looking in. The good news is that head coach Mike Singletary has gained a lot of power in personnel matters and it looks like he has the final say on players coming and going, although general manager Scot McCloughan may have the final say on draft day, but they seem to work well together. Director of player personnel Trent Baalke and college scouting director Dave McCloughan are trusted voices, who have considerable input and this team has quality evaluators. Director of football operations Paraaf Maranthe is a business guy and young Jed York is the rising star in the organization. Eventually York will run this front office in the mold of his uncle, Eddie DeBartolo, who he supposedly still consults from time to time. It remains to be seen if all these varied personalities can come together with one philosophy.
