From 32 to 1: New England Patriots

TEAM NEEDS

Running Back:
Lawrence Maroney will once again enter the season as starter by default, but the Pats would be wise to find someone who could challenge him. His injuries are becoming way too norm, and this team can no longer afford to wait for him to pull it together. While Kevin Faulk and BenJarvis Green-Ellis have their moments, I wonder what a number one type RB could do for this offense. With Chris Wells likely off the board, the team should hope that Georgia Knoshown Moreno falls to them in the first. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield should make him a can't miss prospect for the New England brass.

Cornerback:
The team never really replaced Asante Samuel and it showed. Outside of Ellis Hobbs, the team lacks any real talent on the outside. Oregon's Jairus Byrd is an intriguing talent because of size (6'0 207 lbs.) and production (17 picks in three years). He could be had in the second or third round.

Tight End:
This is a bit of a stretch considering the team hasn't really ever utilized the position and is still successful offensively, but I wonder if that would change if they had a dynamic playmaker there. Ben Watson looks the part, but is more often used as an additional blocker. The team might take a chance on a late round prospect like Shawn Nelson from Southern Miss. He has that long frame that you don't see very often at the TE position and the mechanics and athleticism to warrant a fifth or sixth round pick.

PODCAST

I recently joined Dave Dameshek on his podcast to discuss the draft. Check it out. Mel Kiper even called in and yapped a bit.
