Free-agent cornerback Samari Rolle, released by the Baltimore Ravens on March 18, has re-signed with the team. Role, 32, signed a multi-year deal, but the terms and details were not yet available. An 11-year veteran, Rolle has been limited recently by injuries and illness, including treatment for epilepsy. The former Florida State standout has appeared in 148 games and has started 133 games. He has 267 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, 31 interceptions, and 69 passes deflected. Rolle has intercepted at least three passes six times in his career. He posted a career-best seven interceptions in 2000, when he made his lone Pro Bowl appearance. After releasing Rolle, in part for age and salary cap implications, Baltimore signed a pair of free agent cornerbacks, Domonique Foxworth (Atlanta) and Chris Carr (Tennessee), to handle the position. Foxworth is projected as a starter and Carr as a nickel defender, so Rolle might still contend for a starting job or at least meaningful playing time. Rolle was a second-round pick by Tennessee in 1998. He played seven seasons for the Titans (1998-2004) before signing with the Ravens as a free agent in 2005. He visited with the New York Jets, where former Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is the new head coach, after the Ravens released him. But having tested the free-agent market, Rolle decided his best bet was to re-sign with the Ravens. Despite his physical problems of the past two seasons, Rolle is still regarded as a solid cover player and will bring depth and experience to the Baltimore secondary.
