Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen dominated at the college level and ran well for a 265-pound defensive end prospect at the combine, but he didn't get drafted until late in the fourth round of the 2004 draft. Why? The most logical reason is he played at Idaho State so organizations were concerned that the lower level of competition greatly inflated his numbers, especially considering he didn't have ideal size or upper-body strength. Of course, Allen went on to record 43 sacks in his four years with the Kansas City Chiefs, who then traded him to Minnesota for the No. 17 overall pick and two third-round picks in the 2008 draft. Impressive, especially considering Allen lived up to expectations in Minnesota with 14.5 sacks and two safeties last year. Below is a look at three defensive ends from well-known schools and one small-school prospect expected to come off the board on the second day of this year's draft, just as Allen did, and where they might find a good fit in the NFL.
