Florida edges Michigan for No. 2 spot in AP football poll

NEW YORK -- Florida did just enough Saturday to
overtake Michigan.

The Gators are the new No. 2 in the latest Associated Press
college football poll released Sunday, holding a slim lead over
the Wolverines.

The teams are in the running for the remaining berth in the BCS
title game where Ohio State (12-0) awaits. The Buckeyes
received all 65 first-place votes from a panel of 65 writers and
broadcasters and 1,625 points.

Florida (12-1) moved up two spots to second with 1,529 points
while Michigan (11-1) remained third with 1,526 points. The
Gators showed voters enough in a 38-28 win over Arkansas in the
Southeastern Conference title game to overtake the idle
Wolverines.

Louisiana State (10-2) and Louisville (11-1) round out the top
five followed by Wisconsin (11-1), Oklahoma (10-2), Southern
California (10-2), Boise State (12-0) and Auburn (10-2). USC
dropped six spots after a 13-9 loss against UCLA.

Notre Dame (10-2) is 11th, followed by Arkansas (10-3), West
Virginia (10-2), Virginia Tech (10-2) and Wake Forest (11-2).

Rutgers (10-2) is 16th while Tennessee (9-3), Texas (9-3),
Brigham Young (10-2) and California (9-3) round out the top 20.

Texas A&M (9-3), Nebraska (9-4), Boston College (9-3), Oregon
State (9-4) and TCU (10-2) complete the poll.

The Beavers and Horned Frogs are new to the poll while Georgia
Tech and Hawaii dropped out.
