Benjamin Watson (Achilles), Kyle Arrington (concussion) put on IR

NFL, Baltimore Ravens

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore placed tight end Benjamin Watson and cornerback Kyle Arrington on injured reserve Monday as they begin to trim the roster to 75 players.

Watson, the Ravens' first free-agent signing this offseason, tore his right Achilles tendon on the first play from scrimmage in Saturday's preseason game. That leaves Baltimore with one healthy, experienced tight end in Crockett Gillmore. Dennis Pitta (fractured finger) and Maxx Williams (undisclosed) have been sidelined for most of the preseason, and Darren Waller (four games) and Nick Boyle (10 games) will begin the season on the suspended list.

Arrington, who was signed last year, has been out since suffering a concussion in the Ravens' first preseason game on Aug. 11. He took a $1.2 million pay cut this offseason and was going to have a difficult time making the team.

The Ravens released veteran inside linebacker Kavell Conner and waived eight players: quarterback Jerrod Johnson, wide receivers Dobson Collins, Chuck Jacobs and Darius White, offensive linemen Anthony Fabiano and Jarell Broxton, outside linebacker Mario Ojemudia and defensive tackle Trevon Coley.

Baltimore has four more roster moves to make to get down to the 75-player limit by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.
