Andrew Luck says there's no added pressure from new deal

NFL, Indianapolis Colts

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck said he doesn't feel any added pressure after signing the largest contract in NFL history during the offseason.

Owner Jim Irsay gave Luck a six-year, $140 million contract, which includes $87 million in guaranteed money, on June 29.

"I've always thought this about pressure and expectations: One, I always have very high expectations for myself, probably higher than what other people expect," Luck said Tuesday as he reported for training camp at Anderson (Indiana) University.

"And as far as pressure, I think pressure is a privilege. [There's] pressure from your coach, pressure from your teammates, your close friends and family. You can't control what folks are going to say, good or bad. I never got caught up in that."

Luck received his new contract after coming off the worst season of his four-year career in 2015. He completed just 55.3 percent of his attempts and committed 13 turnovers.

The quarterback also was vulnerable to injuries for the first time in his career. He missed two games early in the season, then was out for the final seven weeks of the season after suffering a lacerated kidney in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos.

Luck said he's "100 percent" healthy.

"There's maybe a little more motivation coming off last year," he said. "Not just the injury, not just doing as well as you would have liked, but every season. [It] doesn't matter how poorly or how well that you did last year."
