Patriots WR Danny Amendola feels 'really good' after surgeries

NFL, New England Patriots

New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola, who underwent offseason surgery on his left knee and a procedure to remove bone spurs from his ankle, provided an update on his status Tuesday.

"I feel really good. I had a couple minor procedures done after the season. Everybody knows how long the season can be. I wanted to go into next season feeling as fresh and ready as I can," Amendola said on ESPN's NFL Insiders.

Amendola's situation was previously referred to as "minor" and "not a long-term" concern, according to sources, although he did not participate in spring practices.

All Patriots players are scheduled to report for training camp by July 27, with the first practice the next day. Amendola said on NFL Insiders that he plans to spend time in California before then. He said veteran defensive end Chris Long -- his former teammate with the Rams -- is one player who stood out in spring practices because of his "extremely high motor."

With the Patriots preparing for the possibility that third-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo might be thrust into the lineup should Tom Brady serve a four-game suspension, Amendola was asked what Garoppolo brings to the offense.

"He's a great player," Amendola said. "He's been in the system a couple of years now and he's learned a lot. He's picked up everything that Tom has taught him and then also what Coach [Bill] Belichick has to offer him. So we're all excited to see where he goes and see what the future holds for him."
