JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey underwent surgery Tuesday morning to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee but the team expects him to return in time for the start of training camp in late July.
"That's great news," coach Gus Bradley said after the team's second day of OTAs. "That's what we had hoped for. We knew all the scenarios.
"... It sounds like come training camp he should be ready to go. Full go."
Ramsey, whom the Jaguars took with the fifth overall pick in the NFL draft, suffered a small tear to the meniscus in his right knee during phase two of offseason conditioning last week. He traveled to Pensacola, Florida, on Monday to seek a second opinion from noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery Tuesday morning.
There was a possibility that Ramsey could miss up to six months, but the fact that he'll be back by training camp -- even though he'll miss all of OTAs and a mandatory three-day minicamp -- is good news for a franchise that hasn't had much recently.
The Jaguars said Tuesday that starting right tackle Jermey Parnell suffered a nondisplaced fracture in his left hand during Monday's OTA. He was on the field Tuesday but will be limited for the rest of OTAs and minicamp.
On Monday, the Jaguars announced that seventh-round pick Jonathan Woodard will miss the season with a torn Achilles tendon, and backup center Luke Bowanko had suffered a torn labrum in his hip and would be placed on the physically unable to perform list.
The team lost No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler Jr. for the 2015 season because of a torn ACL suffered during rookie minicamp.
