Laremy Tunsil signs four-year deal with Dolphins

NFL, Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins signed first-round pick Laremy Tunsil to a four-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Once projected as a potential No. 1 overall selection in this year's NFL draft, Tunsil fell to the Dolphins at No. 13 after an online video, posted to his Twitter account minutes before the draft started, appeared to show the former Ole Miss offensive lineman smoking from a bong through a gas mask.

Tunsil said his social media accounts had been hacked, and the video likely cost him millions of dollars.

Terms of Friday's deal were not announced. However, last year's 13th draft pick, offensive lineman Andrus Peat, signed an $11.4 million, four-year deal with the Saints.

Tunsil also acknowledged after being drafted that he took money from an assistant coach while at Ole Miss.

He signed his contract on the first day of Dolphins rookie camp Friday, and coach Adam Gase said Tunsil is handling the recent adversity well.

"I think he's done a good job," Gase said. "I know it's been, what, eight days? So he looked excited when he got here. He was probably happy that this [rookie camp] was kind of starting."

Gase said he hasn't talked extensively to Tunsil because everything happened so fast. But this weekend is an important time for Tunsil and other rookies to bond with their new team and coaches.

The Dolphins will not have any on-field activities during rookie camp. Instead, they are focusing on mental preparation, learning the playbook, and receiving nutrition and financial advice.

"With all our guys, we want to see them attack this playbook, try to use the people that we have in this building to their advantage," Gase said. "People in this building are going to try to help them become pros as fast as possible. The transition is a lot harder than what people realize."

The Dolphins also signed rookie quarterback Brandon Doughty, their seventh-round pick, and 12 undrafted rookie free agents Friday.
