Ravens LB Terrell Suggs pleads not guilty to misdemeanor charges

NFL, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs pleaded not guilty Friday to two misdemeanors stemming from his one-car accident in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 5.

Suggs was charged in the accident by the Scottsdale Police Department for driving with a suspended license and failure to notify after striking a fixture. Both misdemeanors could result in jail time, but they often lead to fines.

His lawyer, Craig Penrod, on Friday filed a request for disclosure. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for May 16.

Suggs' representative said in March that his suspended license stemmed from speeding tickets. In an arrest video released by the Scottsdale Police Department, Suggs told officers that he visited a female friend at a hotel and fell asleep, which led to him being out later than he planned.

The 33-year-old Suggs is recovering from a season-ending Achilles tendon tear suffered in Week 1. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome expects Suggs to be ready for the start of the 2016 regular season.

A six-time Pro Bowl linebacker, Suggs was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.
