AP sources: Saints re-sign backup QB McCown

METAIRIE, La. -- Two people familiar with the decision say the New Orleans Saints are bringing back reserve quarterback Luke McCown under a new two-year contract.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday night on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been announced. One person says the contract is worth $3 million.

McCown was Drew Brees' primary backup last season before a back injury sidelined him for the final eight games. McCown started in Week 3 at Carolina because Brees had a shoulder injury. McCown completed 31 of 38 passes (81.6 percent) for 310 yards in a 27-22 loss. He also completed a 25-yard pass on a fake field goal at Indianapolis.

McCown's return gives the Saints three QBs, including 2015 third-round draft pick Garrett Grayson.
