Veteran QB Matt Schaub wants to play a 13th season

Matt Schaub, a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, doesn't plan to retire despite his struggles and wants to play a 13th season in the NFL.

"I still want to play," Schaub told the Ravens' team website. "I've still got good years left in me. It's just where I might be. We'll see what happens moving forward."

Schaub, 34, could have trouble drawing interest in free agency this offseason.

The Ravens are not expected to re-sign Schaub because they have Ryan Mallett signed through 2016 to be Joe Flacco's backup. Other teams looking for a backup might not pursue Schaub after two lackluster starts for Baltimore this season.

Schaub was the 42nd-rated passer in the NFL this season, passing for 540 yards in two games with three touchdowns and four interceptions. He had an interception returned for a touchdown in each of his two starts, and he has thrown a pick-six in his last three games (he set the NFL record with a pick-six in four consecutive games in 2013).

The one bright spot for Schaub was reaching his $1 million incentive for playing in at least 10 percent of the Ravens' snaps this season. He managed to participate in 12 percent of them (132 of 1,083 snaps).

A Pro Bowl quarterback in 2012, Schaub was benched by the Houston Texans in 2013 and was beaten out by rookie second-round pick Derek Carr with the Oakland Raiders in 2014. He started for the Ravens after Flacco suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 22, but he was injured in his second start in Miami and never regained the job.

"I'm going to get home and let my hair down a little bit and take a breather mentally and emotionally and physically," Schaub said. "Then we'll see where things go. We'll see what happens come February or March."
