Why Redskins are legitimate threat in NFC

When it comes to the playoffs, it's not a matter of how well a team played all season but rather how well it is playing at that moment.

For the Washington Redskins, those well-played playoff moments have been few and far between, as they haven't won a postseason game since the 2005 campaign.

This could be the year that changes, as Jay Gruden's offense is playing at a level that could make Washington one of the most dangerous teams in the postseason.

Elite downfield passing over the past month

There isn't a passing attack that has performed better than the Redskins' over the past four weeks.

In that time frame, Kirk Cousins leads the league in vertical yards per attempt (17.3 yards on aerials thrown 11 or more yards downfield) and ranks second in stretch vertical yards per attempt (23.2 yards on targets traveling 20 or more yards downfield). Cousins also rates tied for the top spot in vertical passing yards (659), tied for second in vertical touchdown passes (6) and first in vertical completion percentage (76.3 percent).
